As autumn descends on the northwest corner of Wyoming, a pensive mood lingers in the air. The large mammals sport thick, new winter coats acquired from a summer of feasting, and the leaves of aspen and cottonwood trees blaze in back-lit glory. During September, wildlife reclaims many of the areas overwhelmed by the summer's tourists. The bird migration is in full swing and the elk are rutting—their bugling resounding from the hillsides.

Fall is a wonderful time to photograph in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The air is cool but the sun still yields its warmth.
The rich greens of summer give way to vibrant rusts, yellows and browns of autumn. Traffic-jammed roads and crowded trails empty, replaced by autumnal tranquility.

In Grand Teton National Park, the majestic Snake River captures our attention as it winds beneath the snow-dusted peaks of the Tetons. Glaciers above high, aspen-choked canyons provide an unparalleled photographic backdrop.

In Yellowstone National Park we will photograph both the region's special wildlife and its unusual
geothermal landscapes. Fumaroles, geysers, boiling paint pots, travertine terraces and colossal waterfalls provide a wealth of unique subjects. The haunting bugling of rutting elk and the rattle of antlers locked in combat can be heard from all sides. And pronghorn, preoccupied with harem defense, allow careful photography from the sidelines.

Day 1
Participants fly to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, meet our leaders and transfer to our comfortable lodge in Moran in time for dinner. (D)

Days 2–3
At sunrise we photograph the magnificent landscapes and wildlife along the Snake River. We photograph sunset over the rugged Tetons. Moose, eagles, waterfowl and magnificent scenery offer many photo opportunities. (BLD)

Days 4–5
Stopping often for photography, we drive to Yellowstone National Park on Day 4. We shoot at classic park locations, including the geyser basins, unearthly landscapes of colorful mist-shrouded hot pools and steaming fumaroles of the Old Faithful area, the Norris Geyser Basin, the mineral terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs and the majestic waterfalls in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Day 6
After morning photography in the park, we return to Moran today, stopping to photograph en route. (BLD)
