Granada is the highlight of any visit to Spain and features prominently in our shooting schedule. Albayzin, Granada’s fascinating old Arabic quarter, the Sacromonte caves where the mixture of Moorish and Gypsy influences combined to create flamenco, and the formidable Alhambra Palace juxtaposed against the backdrop of the snowcapped Sierra Nevada summits, are the stuff of fairy tales.
An hour’s drive from Granada, the Costa del Sol shoreline still harbors quaint and off-the-beaten-track fishing villages, the remainder of the paradise that was replaced with an endless succession of tourist resorts in the 1950s. We’ll seek out and photograph these ageless old-world backwaters and create images that conjure up the nostalgic ambiance of yesteryear. Escape winter’s doldrums with this special opportunity to photograph the richness that is sunny southern Spain. With plenty of time to capture each location in the best light, you will create a diversity of imagery that will be both stimulating and fulfilling. Join us on the southernmost tip of the Old Continent. With expert leadership, wonderful accommodations, and a small group of enthusiastic people with a compelling common denominator, this trip will offer many highlights to tempt your shutter finger!
Depart home. Day 2 Arrive in Granada. We meet in our hotel for dinner. (D) Day 3 We’ll make our first photos of the Alhambra this morning, then explore the historic areas of Granada. At sunset we’ll capture the Alhambra from the viewpoint at St. Nicolas. (BLD) Day 4 Morning brings distinctive light to photograph the winding streets and markets of Albayzin. In the evening we’ll return to the Alhambra. (BLD) Day 5 We shoot the unspoiled white villages—including Gualchos, Motril, Salobreña and Frigiliana—starting high in the mountains and ending at the sea on the famous Costa del Sol. (BLD)
Sunrise at Lacalahorra (Spain’s last castle) begins our day. We drive to Sierra Nevada National Park and its picturesque white villages of Quesada and Iruela. The Paloma Pass will offer great views of a patchwork of olive groves far below. Sunset will be at the village of Cazorla. (BLD) Day 7 We drive the southern edge of the park stopping at Lanjaron, Pampaneira, Capileira, Bubión and Trévelez. (BLD) Day 8 Ronda is our final destination today, photographing the unusual karst formations of Torcal de Antequera at sunset. (BLD) Day 9 We have the full day to photograph the Renaissance and Moorish palaces, as well as the monuments and bullring, in Ronda. (BLD) Day 10 Our focus shifts to the villages surrounding Ronda—Zahara de la Sierra, Grazalema, El Bosque and Montejaque. (BLD) Day 11 More unspoiled villages of the Costa del Sol capture our imagination today, including Gaucín (the watchtower of the southern Sierras with views of the Moroccan coast) and Spain’s most beautiful village, Casares. (BLD) Day 12 Continue along the Costa del Sol to Ojén, Mijas and Yunquera. (BLD) Day 13 We slowly journey back to Granada. (BLD) Day 14 Depart for home. (B) |
