Vida Ward
Vida Ward cannot remember a time in her life when she was without a camera. "I have always loved photography and felt that I had a good eye for seeing images," she says, "but I was technically deficient and so my images were often 'hit and miss.'"

In 2002 Vida traveled with Joseph Van Os Photo Safaris for the first time. She explains, "it was my first real photo trip and also my first attempt at shooting wildlife. Naturally I got hooked, especially on the birds. I found them the most challenging to photograph. I have learned an enormous amount about the technical side of photography on these trips and every trip brings a new revelation about my equipment. I particularly enjoy the camaraderie and willingness—even eagerness—of the other trip members to freely share their knowledge and experiences.

Clearly Vida's technical skills have caught up to her "eye" for photography as evidenced by the images she sent us from her recent tour to the Palouse region in southeastern Washington state. Vida says, "I had wanted to visit the Palouse for many years, ever since I first saw a photo of the area at an art fair in Idaho. It's a place of profound beauty and rivals any landscape I have ever seen." That says a lot coming from a woman who has traveled the world and photographed much of it.

Vida holds a degree in archaeology and spent five seasons excavating in Cyprus and at Carthage in Tunisia. At one point she was pressed into service as the official "dig" photographer. These digs offered her an opportunity to travel and photograph throughout several North African countries including Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt as well as the Middle East. One of the photos she took in Egypt won her recognition and first prize in a national photo contest sponsored by the Saturday Review Magazine. Not only did the photo provide her with, as she puts it, "my 15 minutes of fame—photographically speaking," but she also won an all-expense-paid trip to Morocco. "It was the only country in the region I hadn't visited, and it is possibly the most photogenic."

For several years running, Vida's images have appeared on Pfizer Pharmaceutical's calendars. As our latest Featured Client we are very pleased to present to you several of her wonderful Palouse images.
